Burnley manager Nicky Hayen has implored forward Zian Flemming to remain at Turf Moor, as speculation mounts over a potential move to Everton following David Moyes’ attendance at the stadium on Sunday.
Flemming’s stoppage-time double earned the Clarets a 2-2 stalemate after they had been two goals behind against the Hammers, the side where Moyes previously worked. The Dutch marksman’s brace took his seasonal total to three goals, having also found the net during the club’s Carabao Cup fixture against Notts County.
The Amsterdam-born attacker, who turned 28 recently, has accumulated 29 goals across 71 appearances since arriving from Millwall for £7million on August 31, 2024. Previous reports have connected Flemming with moves to Brentford, Coventry City and Leeds United, though the Burnley Express now suggests Everton have entered the race for his signature.
Belgian coach Hayen, who assumed control at Turf Moor after both Rob Edwards and Craig Bellamy declined the role during the summer, commented on Flemming’s contribution. He noted that the forward’s brace proved crucial to the outcome. The manager expressed his satisfaction with both the striker’s overall display and his penalty-taking ability. He emphasised Flemming’s significance to the team, highlighting not just his goalscoring but also his overall contribution to the side. Hayen pointed out that the team’s tactical approach complements Flemming’s attributes, suggesting remaining at Burnley represents the optimal path for the player. He acknowledged that circumstances could shift during the winter transfer window, but believes Flemming is currently content at the club, which the manager considers paramount.
