Former Manchester United and Villarreal forward Giuseppe Rossi thinks Everton would suit Marcus Rashford well.
Rossi, who earned 30 caps for Italy, understands what it takes to rebuild a career after leaving Old Trafford. He rose to prominence in 2004 after joining from Parma, netting four times in 14 appearances before relocating to Spain.
He subsequently became Villarreal’s record goalscorer during a six-year period disrupted by two anterior cruciate ligament injuries, before additional stints at Fiorentina and Levante. He called time on his career in 2023 at 36.
Rossi, who initially moved into broadcasting following his retirement, has offered his views on Rashford’s future. Rashford spent last term on loan at Barcelona and his next destination remains unclear after returning to Manchester United.
The 28-year-old could suit Everton, with the club still monitoring the situation regarding Grealish, who was on loan on Merseyside last season but featured for Manchester City in their Community Shield loss to Arsenal at the weekend. Chief executive Angus Kinnear confirmed the club continues to track developments regarding the Aston Villa player.
Rossi thinks David Moyes could strengthen his attack by pursuing an alternative wide option.
He told Bet Brothers that Rashford should move to a different club for his own benefit, that his Manchester United career appears to be over, and that it was surprising Barcelona did not retain him as he performed reasonably well for them and suited their style of play.
He noted that Rashford no longer seems to identify as a Manchester United player and lacks the required mentality, which is not helpful for a club trying to progress. A swift departure for all concerned would be advisable this summer.
When considering whether Rashford could transform his career in Italy like McTominay has, Rossi found the concept interesting but doubted Rashford would excel in Serie A given how tactical the league is. He felt Rashford still suits the English game best, though he did perform adequately at Barcelona.
Rossi recommended Rashford move to another Premier League side this summer, suggesting a club like Tottenham or Everton would be exciting options. Rashford needs an environment where he can play freely and help restore the team’s fortunes.
